About Red Fort Agra
No Taj Mahal tour is complete without exploring Red Fort Agra, In fact, both the buildings are connected through history.
Red Fort Agra is associated with Mughal emperors. Every Mughal monarch from Akbar to Humayun lived in Red Fort Agra and ruled his empire from here. Naturally, this 16th-century building has several beautiful palaces to explore.
While roaming around in Agra Red Fort, we will visit the following buildings:
- Musamman Burj – Historians say that Shah Jahan lived here in his last days and gazed at Taj Mahal when he was sad. Musamman Burj has a beautiful architecture and offers a splendid view of Taj Mahal.
- Machchi Mahal – Since the word ‘Machchi’ means fish, Machchi Mahal is a palace near a fish pond. Mughal emperors like Shah Jahan and Akbar used to relax themselves here by watching the fish swim in the waters.
- Jahangiri Mahal – This is a very large palace inside Red Fort and it used to be the residence of Jahangir. What sets Jahangiri Mahal from other palaces is its size and beautiful arches and doors.
Other buildings in Red Fort Agra
If time permits, we can visit other buildings in Red Fort Agra such as:
- Diwan-i-Aaam
- Diwan-i-Khas
- Angoori Bagh, etc.
After completing Red Fort Agra, we are now ready to go to Taj Mahal.
Details of Taj Mahal Agra
The highlight of our Taj Mahal tour is the iconic Taj Mahal which was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th-century.
Built of marble, Taj Mahal has a central building and several gardens. The central building is the most important part of the Taj complex and contains the graves of the king and his queen. There are slender towers on each of the four corners of the platform on which this building stands.
Visiting Taj Mahal is a highly emotional experience and you can gaze at this white building for hours. Many couples have visited this destination to celebrate their love. After all, Taj Mahal is all about romance and love, isn’t it?
- Ivory white in colour.
- Spread over 42 acres.
- The walls of Taj Mahal were once decorated wih precious stones.
- Situated on the banks of Yamina.
After visiting Taj Mahal, we return tour hotel for an overnight stay in Agra.
Taj Mahal Tour: Day Two
Next day in the morning after having breakfast, we will drive to Sikandra which is the tomb of Akbar. Sikandra is just 12 kilometers from Agra and the road is smooth and comfortable.
When you arrive in Sikandra, you will be struck with the magnificence of the tomb. Though it is not as pretty as Taj Mahal, Akbar’s tomb in Sikandra has an unmatched grandeur.
