Sonmarg- Aptly named “Meadow of Gold”, or Sonmarg, this scenic Himalayan town is an ideal destination for trout fishing and winter treks especially around some of its spectacular lakes such as Gangabal Lake.

Yusmarg - The name means Meadow of Jesus and Ahmadiyya Muslims believe that Jesus lived and died here centuries ago, though this is hotly contested. Some well-known attractions of Yusmarg include Charar-e-Shareef- a 600-year-old pilgrimage site, Nilnang Lake, and Sang-e-Safed meadow. 

Srinagar - Known as the “Land of Lakes and Gardens”, Srinagar is probably best known for Dal lake with its exquisite houseboats and enchanting boat rides. While it is the state’s summer capital, during winter it transforms into a travelers haven. The Dal Lake is also renowned for its floating vegetable market. Additionally, Srinagar is well known for the Mughal Gardens Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Garden, and Chashme Shahi Garden.  

Heavy Snowfall in Kashmir

Kashmir is also an ideal destination for winter camping. The dark grey skies and bone-chilling temperatures make winter camping here a truly unique experience. Some of the more popular campsites include Mount Harmukh Camping, Mount Nun Kun Camping, and the Trek to Sankaracharya. You may want to be careful about booking budget hotels as they may not have adequate equipment such as electric blankets for the winter. Dal lake may be frozen, depending on snowfall volumes. Local transport is not the best during winter, so it would be well advised to book a pre-paid car well in advance.
