History of Jag Mandir

Shahjahan, often referred to as Prince Khurram, the Mughal emperor, is a fascinating figure in Jagmandir's past. Khurram revolted against his father Jahangir in 1623 because he wanted to rule the country. Khurram sought asylum in Maharana Karan Singh's Mewar kingdom of Udaipur out of concern for his safety.

Khurram was given sanctuary by Maharana Karan Singh since his mother was a Rajput woman. Khurram was first detained at City Palace together with his wife and two boys. Later, because of its position near the lake and half-constructed state, Gul Mahal in the Jag Mandir was chosen as their new home since it was safer.

For many years, Khurram resided in the octagonal pavilion known as Gul Mahal. Later, it was transformed into a splendid palace and given the name Jag Mandir palace by Maharana Karan Singh's son Jagat Singh. The palace had a profound effect on Khurram, who went on to become Emperor Shah Jahan and construct the magnificent Taj Mahal.

Gul Mahal is one of the additional new structures that Maharana Jagat Singh built to the Jag Mandir complex. In the 17th century, he was in charge of finishing the construction of Jagmandir Isla. The palace was given his name as a tribute.
