The Nainital Governor House is known as the Raj Bhawan, and it is a symbol of British legacy in the town. This British-era mansion, which was previously the summer residence of British Governors, is now the Governor residence of Uttarakhand.

When was Built

Was laid on 27th April 1897

Who is the founder

It is built on European pattern and based on Gothic Architecture.

Raj Bhawan's architectural style

The Raj Bhawan was purposefully built around the gorgeous topography, spanning 205 acres and including a 45-acre golf course. There is a swimming pool and a garden on the castle grounds. This Scottish-style castle took two years to build during the pre-independence era in 1897. The castle's architecture is Gothic and European in style. It was given the name Raj Bhawan after independence.

The Raj Bhawan is a two-story building with 113 rooms that is popular with British tourists during the summer. During their tour to Nainital, the majority of British VIPs and guests stayed in the Raj Bhawan.

Following independence, Sarojini Naidu was the first Governor of Uttar Pradesh (now Uttarakhand) to live at this historic place. Lush green gardens, Deodar and Oak trees enhance the appeal of this location and draw a large number of tourists.

The Raj Bhawan has a golf course.

The Raj Bhawan Golf Course is one of the oldest and most historic golf courses in India. It was built in 1926 and belongs to the Indian Golf Union. This golf course was the sole property of the erstwhile United Province, subsequently known as Uttar Pradesh. It first became accessible to the public in 1994. This 18-hole golf course is nestled among the lush greens of the mountainous countryside and is a must-play for golf enthusiasts.
