Gwalior

Madhya Pradesh

The city of Gwalior, located in the north of Madhya Pradesh, boasts of many sagas of history in itself and also holds its own special place on the tourism map of the state. It is mentioned in the history books that Gwalior has been the capital of Gurjar-Pratihar dynasty, Tomar and Baghels. Gwalior is also known as Tapobhoomi of Galav Rishi. Gwalior can also be called a unique confluence of history and modernity. Talking about the places of interest here, the name of Sun Temple comes first.

It was built in 1093

Who is the founder

King Mahipala

The Sun Temple of Gwalior is a role model for other temples in the country. This temple is free from the terror of pandey-priests and beggars, as well as cleanliness has been given a lot of attention here as compared to other places. This Sun Temple is built on the style of the Konark Temple in Odisha. There are also panoramic gardens around this grand temple built of red stone.

Major historical sites

The Gwalior fort, which is counted among the major forts of India, was built by Raja Mansingh to show his love for Gujri Rani. Built on a sandstone hill, this fort has six palaces, of which Man Mandir and Mrignayani's Gujari Mahal are prominent. Built in the 15th century, this fort is an excellent example of Indian architecture. The memorial of Rani Jhansi is also worth seeing.

This monument has a huge equestrian statue and mausoleum of Rani Lakshmi Bai, the heroine of the 1857 freedom struggle. This fort is also the sacrifice place of the queen. You can also visit the tomb of Muhammad Gaus and Tansen. Symbol of Guru-disciple tradition, this place has the tomb of Tansen's initial teacher Muhammad Gaus built in Mughal style. There is also the tomb of music emperor Tansen in the courtyard of this huge and grand mausoleum.

Precious things of Gwalior

A unique example of modern Italian architectural style, in Jai Vilas Palace, where on one hand priceless things are kept for exhibition, on the other hand, the golden mosaic and color decoration of the palace is made in the dazzling light of huge chandeliers. Big carpet and silver bed, umbrella and breakfast rail attract the visitors a lot in the things kept for the exhibition. There is also a mother-in-law's temple in Gwalior. Both these temples, having the shape of Egyptian pyramids, were built in 1093. These temples built very close to each other have carved pillars and big windows. The strangest thing that is seen in these temples is that the daughter-in-law's temple is bigger than the mother-in-law's temple. Both the temples are related to Lord Vishnu according to beliefs. The temple of Teli is situated near the temple of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.

This temple is also dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The biggest feature of this temple is that it is built in Dravidian style. Perhaps its construction has been related to Telangana in some way. This is the reason why it is called Teli Ka Mandir.

Conclusion

The majestic, but now-ruined, Sas-bahu Temple of Gwalior is a fine depiction of the ancient Bhumija architectural paradigm, with a few aspects of Nagara style thrown in for good measure. This monument is exceedingly gorgeous and should be on the itinerary of any tourist visiting Gwalior.
