Monsoon Palace Sajjangarh Fort Udaipur

Under the direction of Maharana Sajjan Singh, work on the Monsoon Palace/Sajjangarh Fort & Palace began. Maharana Sajjan Singh was a prominent Mewar dynasty thinker, inventor, and short-lived monarch. Even though he was briefly in power for ten years (1874 to 1884), he significantly contributed to upholding and sustaining the prestige and culture of Udaipur City. His civic efforts included building roads, dams, water supplies, and other infrastructure.

In the nineteenth century, under the reign of Maharana Sajjan Singh, Udaipur was hailed as India's second municipality. The Maharana received the honorific title "Grand Commander of the Star of India" from Lord Ripon in November 1881, on the occasion of Queen Victoria's coronation.

Architecture

Sajjangarh Palace is a white marble fort on a Bansdara peak of the Aravalli hills. This is a magnificent sight rising 310 feet above the sea level. Maharana Sajjan Singh had intended for the Palace to have nine floors, but since the King passed away suddenly, the design was abandoned. But his successor, Maharana Fateh Singh, finished it later. The Sajjangarh Palace was utilised by the Royal family as a hunting lodge and a place to see the monsoon clouds, earning it the nickname Monsoon Palace.

The marble pillars that support the Fort's foundation are intricately carved with floral and leafy designs. There is a big and huge court in the centre. It includes a number of rooms and quarters. Lime Mortar plasters the walls of the palace. There are numerous soldiers protecting the fort on tall towers. The wonderful works of Rajasthani architecture that surround the palaces are the domes, fountains, and jharokhas.
