History of Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara

The history of Manikaran Gurudwara can be dated to 16th-century when Guru Nanak and his disciple Bhai Mardana visited this place during one of their spiritual treks. It is said that Guru Nanak performed a miracle at Manikaran by providing food to the hungry.

The Miracle

When Guru Nanak ji arrived here, people came to him for food. Since he had no grains etc., Guru ji sent Bhai Mardana to a local village. Soon, Bhai Mardana got a lot of rice, flour etc. from the locals. However, there was a problem; There was no way this raw food could be cooked.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji came with a solution. He directed Bhai Mardana to shift a rock under which was a hot spring. Baba Ji used the waters of this spring to prepare food for the hungry.

The gurudwara at Manikaran Sahib is quite new in origin. According to available sources, this gurudwara was builti n 1920 by Baba Narain Hari who came here from erstwhile Pakistan.

Building Manikaran gurudwara was no easy task. The first gurudwara was built of timber which was razed by the locals. However, Baba ji persisted with his efforts and ultimately the gurudwara came up with the help of locals.
