Jalore, the Granite City (Previously known as Jabalipura) is one of the main districts of Rajasthan in western part of India. Jalore city is the administrative headquarters of the Jalore district with area around 10,640 Sq. Km (approx. 4,168 Sq. miles). This ancient city has a history that dated back since 8th century; the region was ruled by the Pratihars, King Vatsa Raja. At the end of the 12th century, the region saw the rule of Parmars, who raised the infamous Jalore Fort in the 10th century. Then came Kumarpal of Chalukya clan followed by Chauhans and later became a part of Mughal Empire and remained under Mughals till 1947.
Now, Jalore is around 3% percent of total Rajasthan with a population of near about 1,448,486. The Jalore district is surrounded by Barmer District in northwest and northeast by Pali District. On the southeast side by Sirohi District, and southwest by Banaskantha, a district of Gujarat state. Situated in 268 Metre height above sea level, latitude is 25.22 N and longitude is 72.58 E. Sukri is the main river of the Jalore and a branch of Luni river.
