You can take a train or flight to Delhi from any part of the country. It is advisable that you take a flight if you are on a schedule. But you can enjoy the train journey also. It is best that you reach Delhi in the early morning. If not, you can always start your journey to Amritsar the next day. It would take you about 9 hours to reach Amritsar from Delhi, that is, if you are travelling by road. If you are taking the train then you would take about 5 hours.
The day you reach, after lodging in to some hotel, you can go directly to the Golden Temple. This temple is also known as the Harmandir Sahib, which means “the abode of the God”. It is the holiest Gurudwara and was founded by Guru Ram Das in 1577. The architectural marvel spells the rich heritage and also represents the Sikh culture and beliefs. Many of its 19th Century art and marble works was done during the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
The Golden Temple is a world renowned temple as it houses the world’s largest free kitchen or “langar khana”. According to many records, it serves free food to 100,000-200,000 people every day.
After the Golden Temple tour, you can go visit the Waga Border, the India-Pakistan border.
