How to reach Leh?

You can reach Leh by taking a flight or taxi. In addition, travellers can visit Leh in Ladakh by taking a bus from various parts of India.

Usually, the flight time is 1 hr.15-25 minutes  from Delhi to Leh (Ladakh).

  • Magnetic Hill - Driving from Leh to Magnetic Hill, you will feel as if you are defying gravity and are being pulled upwards. Don't worry, this is just an illusion. Magnetic Hill is 30 km from Leh (Ladakh). 

  • Nubra Valley - Finish your Leh Ladakh tourism with an overnight camp in Nubra Valley. The camp site ,surrounded by tall peaks of Himalayas, is situated on the banks of the crystal clear Nubra river. 

  • Leh Palace - This impressive palace was built by King Sengee Nagyal in the 16th-century and has nine Storeys. It  resembles the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. Expected visit time-2 hrs.

  • Tso Moriri - Ladakh's Lake Tso Moriri is a natural wetland and is located at an elevation of 14,000 feet. Many tourists visit this lake for peace and quietitude. Expected visit time -2 hours. 

  • Stok Palace - Where do the kings of Ladakh live? Answer: Stok Palace. This 3-storey building is a favourite destination of travellers and is situated right on the banks of the Indus river. Stok Palace is open for visitors between 9 am -1 pm and charges Rs.70 as entry fee. There is a lovely cafe inside the palace which serves excellent Ladakhi food to its guests. 

  • Thiksay Monastery - This Buddhist temple is 18 kms from Leh and overlooks the Indus river. A Buddhist guru who spread Buddhism in this area built Thiksay nearly 600 years ago.

  • Hemis Festival - A two-day event in June/July, this event is celebrated in the Hemis Monastery in Leh. You will love the energy of this festival;don't miss it.

  • Gurudwara Pathar Sahib - Don't forget to take blessings in this gurudwara ( home of Guru) in Leh. You will also enjoy hot tea and tasty food in Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. 

Secret places to visit in and around Leh

Do you want to explore Leh in Ladakh even more? Then you must book a bike or taxi to reach these secret destinations in and around Leh. 

  • Turtuk - Until recently, Turtuk wasn't there in the Leh Ladakh tourism circuit. Now you can easily travel to this pretty town on a motorcycle or with a cab and take beautiful pictures. Turtuk is the northern most twon in Ladakh. 

  • Lamayuru - One of the pretties towns in Ladakh, Lamayuru looks like a spot on the moon. There are many craters in and around Lamayuru. According to legends, a lama prayed for the lake to dry upin this area. So intense was his dedication that the lake evaporated and caused the formation of craters. 

  • Sumur- Don't forget to drive down to Sumur whuch oversees the Nubra Valley. You will be enchannted with breaktaking views of the mustard fields spread out below. Sumur has a 150-year old gompa which is decorated with beautiful frescoes. 

  • Ulley Tokpo - This village is on a ,lower elevation than Leh and hence is warmer. Ulley Tokpo falls on the Srinagar-Leh highway and you can stop here for some rest. It is a great place for acclimatization. 

  • Panamic hotsprings - These hot sulpur springs are in the Panamic village, north of Leh and have medicinal properties and can cure arthritis and other diseases.

  • Visiting Shanti Stupa - Meditate and relax in the world- \famous Shanti Stupa in Leh. Built in 1991, it draws people from all parts of the world. 

  • Saka Dawa Festival - Leh comes alive in May-June with the Saka Dawa Festival. Saka Dawa means the day when Gautam Buddha was born and usually, it is on the full moon day of Vesak month. 

  • Cafe hopping - Make the best of your time in Leh (Ladakh) by sipping coffee and chatting with your friends in one of the many cafes.
