Srinagar Sightseeing Places
It is a place that has already been made famous through the presence of the beautiful Dal Lake featuring in several Bollywood films. Part of a natural wetland, the 18 sq km lake displays bewitching floating gardens filled with lotuses. Overlooking the lake is also Asia’s largest tulip garden, which is another major attraction. Set at an altitude of 5,600 feet, the 20-acre garden is a sheer delight for the eyes!
The charm of Dal Lake is further enhanced by the gardens and parks surrounding it. The best of these gardens is Pari Mahal or Fairies’ Abode, a seven-terraced garden adorning the Zabarwan Mountains. Pari Mahal is a house and a library, constructed by Dara Shikoh, the son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, in the mid-1600s. He encouraged its use as an observatory for educating people about astrology and astronomy. The place was also meant to be a retreat for Sufi teachers.
