Bhagirathi Shila is the holy rock, where King Bhagirath is said to have meditated. This stone near the temple of Ganga signifies the site where Goddess Ganga first stepped down to earth.
Numerous scientists did research on it and finally concluded that the water from Ganga at its origin is in a pure state. Also it remains uncontaminated even after being kept for several years on end. The secretions of herbs and mineral content from the Glacier which mix with the Ganga water forms Ganga Jal.
