Chamundi Hills is the prime landmark of Mysore city, about 13 kms from Mysore, visible almost from anywhere in the city center. Chamundi Hills is famous not only in India but also abroad. Atop of the hill the famous Sri Chamundeswari Temple. ‘Chamundi’ or ‘Durga’ is the fierce form of ‘Shakti’. She is the slayer of demons, ‘Chanda’ and ‘Munda’ and also ‘Mahishasura’, the buffalow-headed monster. A little before the temple, close to the parking lot and the Chamundi bus stand is the brightly painted statue of Mahishasura. For tourists, this is a must do place for a group photograph,Mahishasura included. Further down is the imposing stature of Nandi (Bull), the mount of Lord Shiva. This 5 meter tall (16 feet) Nandi of Mysore is the third largest Nandi in India. 

You need to climb 1000 steps to reach the Chamundeshwari temple.
